Is Your Song Ready to Release? A Pre-Release Checklist

Releasing a song before it is ready can waste your budget, your momentum, and your first impression with new listeners. Before you upload, run through this checklist to make sure your song is truly ready to release.

The Song Itself

• Does the hook land within the first 30 seconds?
• Is every section necessary, or can it be tighter?
• Would someone who does not know you replay it?
• Is it one of your best songs, not just your newest?

The Sound Quality

• Is the vocal clear and balanced with the beat?
• Does it sound good on phone speakers, headphones, and in a car?
• Is the master competitive with songs in your genre without distortion?
• Did someone other than you give it a professional listen?

The Business Side

• Are all samples and beats properly cleared or licensed?
• Are writer and producer splits documented on a split sheet?
• Is your metadata accurate?

The Presentation

• Is the cover art professional and on brand?
• Do you have photos, videos, and content ready?
• Are your profiles and bios updated?

The Plan

• Do you have a release date at least three to four weeks out?
• Is there a rollout plan for before and after release?
• Do you know your goal for this release?
