What Discovery Mode Does

When you select songs for Discovery Mode, Spotify gives them a boost in certain personalized listening contexts. You do not pay up front and there is no ad creative to make.

How the Cost Works

Instead of charging a fee, Spotify applies a commission, currently 30 percent, to recording royalties from streams of those songs in Discovery Mode contexts. Streams from everywhere else are not affected.

Who Can Use It

Eligibility has requirements, including minimums for monthly listeners and songs that have been out for a while and meet monetization rules. Requirements can change, so check the current details in Spotify for Artists.

How Campaigns Are Scheduled

Campaigns are set up in the Campaigns section of Spotify for Artists and run by the month. You choose songs during a selection window, and the campaign starts at the beginning of the next month.

When It Can Make Sense

• A catalog song already has strong saves and low skips
• You want more reach for a song that is proving itself organically
• You are tracking results and comparing before and after

When to Be Careful

• Your song is not performing well organically yet
• You rely on every dollar of streaming income
• You are not measuring whether new listeners become followers
