Get Your Live Set Ready
Before you pitch anyone, rehearse a tight set of your best songs. Know your transitions, practice with your DJ or band, and plan how you will talk to the crowd. A short, strong set is better than a long, uneven one.
Start With the Right Opportunities
Open mics, showcases, local festivals, community events, and opening slots are ideal first shows. They help you build experience, footage, and relationships.
Research Venues and Promoters
Find venues and events that book artists in your genre and at your level. Follow local promoters, attend their events, and introduce yourself in person. Relationships matter a lot in live music.
Prepare Your EPK
Promoters want to know you can draw a crowd and put on a good show. Your EPK should include your best music, live footage, local stats, and contact information.
Send a Professional Pitch
Keep your email short. Say who you are, what dates you are available, why you fit the event, and how you plan to promote the show. Include links to your EPK and live video.
Understand the Deal
Early shows may pay little or nothing, but make sure you know the terms in writing: set time, set length, pay or door split, guest list, sound check, and equipment. Never agree to deals where you pay large fees just to perform without clear value.
Promote Your Show
Venues want artists who bring people. Promote the show on social media, email your fans, invite friends personally, and team up with other artists on the bill.
Make the Most of It
Record your set, sell merch, collect fan contacts, and thank the promoter. A great first show often leads to the next booking.
