How to Design Cover Art That Stands Out on Streaming Platforms
by May 25, 2026On streaming platforms, your cover art appears as a small square next to thousands of others. Great cover art catches the eye, reflects the music, and strengthens your brand.
From the RMG Empire team: Strong brands get taken seriously. See how RMG Empire artists present themselves, and how our brand-building services can help you do the same.
Design for Small Sizes
Most people see your artwork on a phone. Use bold images and simple compositions that read clearly at small sizes.
Communicate the Music
Your artwork should hint at the mood of the song. A dark, moody track and a bright summer anthem should look different.
Keep Text Minimal
If you use text, keep it large and readable. Many great covers use no text at all.
Stay On Brand
Each release can have its own concept while still feeling like part of your world. Consistent fonts, colors, or styles help fans recognize you.
Follow Platform Rules
Streaming platforms typically require square artwork at a high resolution, often 3000 x 3000 pixels, and reject artwork with things like website links, social handles, pricing, or blurry images. Check your distributor’s guidelines.
Own the Rights
Only use images, photos, and fonts you have the rights to use.
Plan Content From It
Use your cover art for teasers, posts, merch, and visualizers.
