How to Pitch Your Music to Blogs, Radio, and Playlist Curators

How to Pitch Your Music to Blogs, Radio, and Playlist Curators

December 20, 2025

Pitching is how independent artists earn coverage, radio spins, and playlist placements. It takes research and patience, but a good pitch can open doors that lead to new fans and bigger opportunities.

RMG Empire insight: Great music still needs a plan. Roots Music Group builds release and marketing strategies for RMG Empire artists. See how we work.

Build a Targeted List

Start by finding outlets that cover music like yours. Look at blogs, podcasts, college and community radio, online radio shows, DJs, and independent playlist curators in your genre. Track names, emails, submission guidelines, and notes in a spreadsheet.

Follow Submission Guidelines

Many outlets tell you exactly how they want to receive music. Follow those instructions. Ignoring them is the fastest way to get deleted.

Write a Short, Personal Pitch

A strong pitch is short enough to read on a phone. Include:

  • A personal greeting using their name
  • One line showing you know their work
  • One or two sentences about the song and what makes it special
  • A private streaming link
  • A link to your EPK
  • A thank-you

Timing Matters

Pitch blogs and media two to four weeks before release. Pitch playlists around release time with live links, unless a curator accepts pre-release music. Radio timelines vary by station, so check before you send.

Follow Up Once

If you do not hear back, send one polite follow-up about a week later. After that, move on and try again with your next release.

Build Relationships

The best results come from relationships. Share coverage when you get it, thank writers and DJs, and engage with their work. People remember artists who are professional and grateful.

Avoid Pay-for-Play Traps

Be careful with services that promise guaranteed coverage or streams. Legitimate promotion never guarantees results. Fake streams and bot traffic can hurt your career.
